Leadership value #9: Learning IS the master skill

I know you have heard that saying, "you can't teach an old dog new tricks."  The truth is, a dog can learn new tricks anytime it wants to (just wave a milk bone in his face) .  The dog just got too comfortable with its classics:   sit, lay-down, bark on command, go to sleep for 8 straight hours...

Like teaching our dogs new tricks past their prime.
Our next value is simple to understand -but hard to actually put into practice.
----The next to last leadership quality is become an Avid Learner.

The world has changed.

And you must change with it.

This means you must be the kind of person that is adaptable.

And to be that kind of person, you better be willing to learn some new tricks.

Adopting a Growth Mindset:
This mindset will distinguish you from others in this day and age. A growth mindset is based on the belief that your basic qualities are things that you can cultivate through your efforts.  (I.e. I can learn to be a great public speaker. I will surround myself with great speakers, take courses on speaking in public, go and listen to other great speakers, etc, etc)

This is in direct contrast the dreaded Fixed Mindset that many people have today.  A fixed mindset basically is when a person believes his/her qualities are carved in stone.
This mindset will get you absolutely nowhere.

Look, it does not take a genius to figure out that in order to NOT be left behind these days you have to get some audacious skills.  And learning is the key to staying on top of those skills.  I know that in life, there are times you can just coast.  That is easy.  I encourage you to put your foot to the metal.

TRY THIS...

Find something you love.  Then learn about it.  ...
Get creative!    Find some one or some place where you can learn more...
The options are truly endless.
